There is no single agreed definition of disability however the Australian Government’s Disability Discrimination Act gives a very broad definition of disability and protects people with disability from discrimination.
Under this legislation people with disability have the same fundamental rights as all people in the workforce and employers need to make adjustments and special provision to promote equal opportunity for people with disability.
Everyone is important to our community and can make a valuable contribution to the workforce. The Northern Territory Government wants to see more people with disability working in the Northern Territory Public Sector and has put programs in place to actively recruit, people with disability.
The Willing and Able Strategy is one of these initiatives. It gives agencies the tools, information and resources to help people with disability fulfill their potential in the workforce.
