Respecting Equity and Diversity in the Workplace

While everyone has the same rights in the workplace their differences need to be valued and acknowledged.

Diversity in the workplace recognises the need to address employment disadvantages experienced by particular groups in society.

To ensure the Northern Territory Public Sector reflects the diverse community it serves, it is committed to maintain:

  • work environments that genuinely value the work of people with different cultural backgrounds, experiences and perspective
  • workplaces free of harassment and discrimination
  • promotion and recruitment through a merit-based selection process
  • opportunities to train, develop and employ Territorians through apprenticeships, cadetships and graduate options
  • safe and healthy work environments
  • flexible work practices to create a family-friendly organisation.

Merit, equity and fairness are vital to a healthy workplace. If these are not being respected in your workplace, you can read your agency’s corporate policy or seek advice from your manager, agency’s Human Resources representative or Employee Assistance Program provider.
