Equity, Diversity & Flexibility

Workplace equity

Equity is simply about giving everyone a "fair go", with appropriate access to training opportunities, to fair working conditions and to opportunities for promotion. It is about providing everyone an equal opportunity to make the most of their talents and abilities in the workplace.

Equity is also about ensuring people are treated appropriately in order to ensure equality of outcomes for all.  Ensuring equality of outcomes may also mean treating a group differently, for example by providing management training specifically for women in order to address a lack of women in upper levels.  This different treatment should be carried out in such a way that any adverse impact is minimal and reasonable.

Workplace diversity

Workplace diversity is a management and leadership approach aimed at creating an inclusive environment, which values and manages the contributions of people of different cultural backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

Workplace flexibility

Workplace flexibility is the underlying principle for employees seeking to manage the balance between the requirements of their job and personal commitments outside the workplace.  This concept, globally recognized as “work life balance”, may be assisted through the use of flexible working and leave arrangements.
