Disability in the Workplace

The Northern Territory Government is committed to creating a diverse and representative workforce that will enable us to offer responsive and appropriate services to the Territory.

People with a disability are an important part of our community. They are under-represented in employment, and named in the Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Act as an EEO group.

The NT Government is committed to improving representation of people with a disability at all levels of its workforce through the implementation of practical initiatives and programs.

Current arrangements in place are:

  • a partnership between OCPE and Project Employment, a non-profit Commonwealth funded organisation, to facilitate employment opportunities for people with an intellectual or learning disability; and
  • an employment strategy Willing and Able to facilitate the recruitment, selection and ongoing productive employment of people who have a recognised disability.The Strategy's key outputs include:
    • Disability Works Australia;
    • Appropriate Selection Panels; and
    • Disability Action Network.
