This web page has been developed to assist you in obtaining access to information held by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment (OCPE).
Much information held by OCPE is already published and readily available on this website. Published information is not subject to the Information Act.
Various provisions contained within the Public Sector Employment and Management legislation (i.e. the Public Sector Employment and Management Act, Regulations and Employment Instructions) also provide alternative procedures for accessing personal information relating to current NT Public Sector employees.
In most cases, employees seeking access to their own employment related information held by this Office can obtain the information more quickly under the provisions of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act rather than by making an application for access under the Information Act.
It is therefore a good idea to contact this Office to see what is already available, and whether there is a better way for you to access it.
Current Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) employees can access a range of personal information relating to their employment under the provisions of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act, subordinate legislation and related administrative procedures.
In particular,
Section 17 of the PSEM Act
Regulation 6 of the PSEM Regulations
PSEM Employment Instruction Number 10 - Employee Records
In addition, a number of administrative procedures implemented under the provisions of the PSEM Act incorporate personal information access arrangements. Such as,
Inability and Discipline appeal process
Grievance Review process
Promotions Appeal process
Selection process
As mentioned above, employees seeking access to their own employment related information held by this Office can often obtain the information more quickly under the provisions of the PSEM Act rather than by making an application for access under the Information Act.
The Northern Territory Information Act commenced on 1 July 2003.
The Act:
allows members of the public to seek access to government information held by OCPE;
allows individuals to seek access to personal information that OCPE holds about them and if appropriate, correct personal information;
protects the privacy of personal information held by OCPE;
provides for appropriate records and archives management;
sets new privacy standards for government through the introduction of 10 Information Privacy Principles; and,
applies to government information that was created or received up to 10 years before 1 July 2003, and to personal information created at any time.
OCPE has developed information access and privacy policies to outline the way in which it will make information available under the Northern Territory Information Act.
