  • provisions for study leave
  • opportunities to diversify skills and experience by transferring within the sector

General conditions of service

  • Recreation leave - NTPS employees are generally entitled to six weeks annual leave for each completed year of service.
  • Study assistance - Financial assistance may be available to employees who wish to further their education by way of participation in work related formal education courses, depending on their Agency’s Study Assistance Policy. Paid study leave may be available to permanent employees providing time does not exceed eight hours per week, including travel. Employees attending residential course programs may be granted paid study leave to a maximum of four weeks per year, including travelling time.
  • Long service leave - Three months is available after 10 years of service. The NTPS may recognise long service accumulated with other government institutions.
  • Sick leave - Three weeks per annum is available on a cumulative basis.
  • Maternity leave - Maternity leave provisions include 52 weeks unpaid maternity leave (from commencement of service), with 14 weeks paid maternity leave (after 12 months of service) or six years unpaid parental leave.
  • Flexible work options - Flexible work practices are employment arrangements that aim to achieve the best possible match between the business interests of employers and the personal/professional interests of individual employees.
  • Salary packaging - Salary sacrifice packaging allows you to ‘sacrifice’ your salary for certain non-cash benefits before you pay income tax. Depending on what it is you want to sacrifice e.g. superannuation, laptop, HECS, personal loan, car lease, private travel or health, you may or may not be required to pay fringe benefit taxes.
