Ask the following questions

Why do we provide feedback to applicants?

Feedback can provide applicants with information about their individual performance in the assessment process and can be a positive tool for their career development.

What information should be provided to applicants?

The information provided is based on the applicant's:

  • assessment against the selection criteria;
  • strengths and areas for improvement; and
  • gaps identified in comparison with the selected applicant.

Feedback must be factual, constructive and fair and provided to applicants in a sensitive manner.

Who is responsible for providing the feedback?

One or more panel members can provide feedback. In the interests of consistency, panel members who do not participate in the feedback session should refrain from making any comment to applicants.

What if an applicant is unhappy with the outcome?

If an applicant is not satisfied with the decision of the panel they have the option to:

  • request feedback from the panel if it has not already been provided;
  • clarify with the panel any written comments provided to them in an individual report;
  • contact the Promotions Appeals Board and Review for advice; and
  • contact the relevant agency Human Resources specialist.

Feedback must be factual, constructive and fair and provided to applicants in a sensitive manner.
