CEO or Delegate Approval

The role of the CEO or their delegate is to consider the selection panel's report and make a decision to approve or not approve the recommendation.

The CEO is responsible for ensuring that:

  • the selection panel has used proper and valid processes in arriving at its recommendations,
  • the claims of all applicants have been given fair and thorough consideration, and
  • the selection panel's conclusions are correct and will withstand scrutiny.

If there is any doubt about some aspects of the process or report, clarification or additional information may be sought from the panel chairperson. If the CEO or their delegate considers that the process was flawed or that the panel's recommendation is incompatible with the merit principle, the report may be referred back to the panel and the selection process may be recommenced. If this occurs, the CEO may decide it is appropriate to convene a new panel.
